Progesterone Progesterone receptor Progesterone is a negative allosteric modulator of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, and a potent antagonist of the mineralocorticoid receptor. Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, 20-α HSD is involved in the control of progesterone level in pregnancy of mice. 17-β HSD is involved in the conversion of androstenedione to testosterone.
