Transcription initiation factor
Transcription initiation factors (TFII) are proteins which enable RNA polymerase II to bind to the DNA template in order to start the transcription process. TFIID recognizes the promoter sequence on the DNA while TFIIB bridges between TFIID and RNA polymerase II. TFIIA is one of several TFs which are required for transcription. TFIIA aids in binding the TATA-binding protein (TBP) to the TATA box containing sequence of the DNA. TFIIF binds RNA polymerase III prohibiting it to bind to DNA outside the promoter. 3D structures of transcription initiation factorsUpdated on 04-May-2025 TFIIA1ytf, 1nh2, 1rm1 – yTFIIA + TBP + DNA – yeast 1nvp – hTFIIA + TATA-binding protein + DNA – human TFIIB1pft – TFIIB N terminal – Pyrococcus furiosus – NMR 1tfb – hTFIIB - NMR TFIID1bh8 – hTFIID 1eqf – hTFIID subunit 1 TFIIE 1vd4 - hTFIIB Zn finger domain – NMR 2rnq – hTFIIE C terminal - NMR TFIIF 1f3u – hTFIIF 1nha – hTFIIF C terminal - NMR
