Function

Pertussis toxin (PT) is produced by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis and is the cause of whooping cough[1]. For additional details see Pertussis Toxin-ATP Complex.

Pertactin is another toxin produced by Bordetella. For details see P.69 Pertactin Structure and Function.

Relevance

PT is associated with exacerbated host airway response during whooping cough infection and may inhibit host mechanisms of attenuating inflammation of the airways[2].
