Function

Complexin (CPLX) is the protein which binds the SNARE protein complex with high affinity. CPLX acts as both inhibitor and facilitator of vesicle fusion and neurotransmitter release at the synapse. CPLX clamps SNARE complexes to prevent vesicle fusion while in another conformation it releases the SNARE complex allowing fusion.[1]
