Welcome potential mentors. We are students/teachers from Unionville HS in S. Chester County, PA. As part of our study of Biology we are organizing a SMART (Students Modeling A Research Topic) Team to create a rapid prototype 3-D model of proteins (OSPA and others) involved in the transmission of Lyme Disease (LD) from vector to vector. We are also interested in the approaches that drug designers have used as LD vaccines have evolved over the last several years. Incidence of LD is especially high in our school district, and several students are no longer physically able to attend school due to chronic symptoms. We are approaching the study of LD from a "problem-based learning" strategy and anticipate that curricular content will cover a wide range of topics from molecular biology to wildlife management. Part of our SMART Team project requires a mentor familiar with aspects of LD as mentioned above. Interested parties sould contact William Anderson, AP Biology teacher, at ucfsd.org. placing a Jmol applet on your page. At any time, click "Show Preview" at the bottom of this page to see how it goes.
