FunctionBeta-N-acetylhexosaminidase or Beta-hexosaminidase or chitobiase (BNAHEX) is a glycoside hydrolase catalysing the cleavage of GlcNAc and GalNAc [1]. BNAHEX serves as a biosynthetic tool for the preparation of hexosaminides under mild conditions. See also Beta-Hexosaminidase. DiseaseElevated levels of BNAHEX were found in patients wit Tay-Sachs disease[2]. RelevanceBVAHEX is a target for the design of agricultural fungicides[3]. Structural highlightsThe 3D structure of beta-N-acetylhexosaminidase complex with the inhibitor berberine shows the berberine forming interaction with W490. The active site includes a interacting with berberine[4]. . Water molecules are shown as red spheres. 3D structures of beta-N-acetylhexosaminidase |
