Structural highlights

3cmu is a 2 chain structure with sequence from Escherichia coli. The April 2014 RCSB PDB Molecule of the Month feature on RecA and Rad51 by David Goodsell is 10.2210/rcsb_pdb/mom_2014_4. Full crystallographic information is available from OCA. For a guided tour on the structure components use FirstGlance.
Method:X-ray diffraction, Resolution 4.2Å
Ligands:, ,
Resources:FirstGlance, OCA, PDBe, RCSB, PDBsum, ProSAT

Function

RECA_ECOLI Can catalyze the hydrolysis of ATP in the presence of single-stranded DNA, the ATP-dependent uptake of single-stranded DNA by duplex DNA, and the ATP-dependent hybridization of homologous single-stranded DNAs. It interacts with LexA causing its activation and leading to its autocatalytic cleavage.[HAMAP-Rule:MF_00268]
