Non-covalent interactions

Non-covalent interactions are chemical bonds that, unlike covalent bonds, do not involve sharing of electrons between atoms. Non-covalent bonds important in protein structure and stability, protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions include:

• Hydrogen bonds
• Salt bridges
• Cation-pi interactions
• The hydrophobic effect
