Function

Nuclear transcription factor Y (NFY) binds to a CCAAT sequence of gene promoters. NFY contains 3 subunits while subunit α binds the promoter box sequence[1]. See details in NF-Y Transcription Factor.

Relevance

NFY is a regulatory factor for many genes which are overexpressed in many kinds of cancer[2].

Structural highlights

The interaction of NFY with the promoter CCAAT sequence, involves an insertion of an NFY helix into the minor groove of the DNA[3].
