METHIONYL-TRNAFMET FORMYLTRANSFERASE FROM ESCHERICHIA COLIMETHIONYL-TRNAFMET FORMYLTRANSFERASE FROM ESCHERICHIA COLI

Structural highlights

1fmt is a 2 chain structure with sequence from Escherichia coli. Full crystallographic information is available from OCA. For a guided tour on the structure components use FirstGlance.
Method:X-ray diffraction, Resolution 2Å
Resources:FirstGlance, OCA, PDBe, RCSB, PDBsum, ProSAT

Function

FMT_ECOLI Modifies the free amino group of the aminoacyl moiety of methionyl-tRNA(fMet). The formyl group appears to play a dual role in the initiator identity of N-formylmethionyl-tRNA by: (I) promoting its recognition by IF2 and (II) impairing its binding to EFTu-GTP.
