by Kevin Chen 3-3-09
This is the protein Trypsin,it has (shown in red) and also (shown in blue), now the parts of Trypsin are on both the surface and inside. Trypsin is an enzyme that breaks down protein, that is produced in the pancreas and then secreted in to the small intestines. It is a homolog of chymotrypsin and it works by cleveing at the paptide bond after residues with long, positively charged side chains. An aspartate residue which sttracts and stabilizes a pisitively charged arginine or lysine residue in the substrate. The disease of cystic fibrosis is the result of deficiency in transport of trypsin and other digestive enzymes from the pancreas.
