Bifunctional ligase/repressor BirA from Klebsiella pneumoniae (Domain Swapped Dimer)Bifunctional ligase/repressor BirA from Klebsiella pneumoniae (Domain Swapped Dimer)

Structural highlights

8f8u is a 2 chain structure with sequence from Klebsiella pneumoniae subsp. pneumoniae 1158. Full crystallographic information is available from OCA. For a guided tour on the structure components use FirstGlance.
Method:X-ray diffraction, Resolution 2.85Å
Ligands:
Resources:FirstGlance, OCA, PDBe, RCSB, PDBsum, ProSAT

Function

A0A0W7ZMT5_KLEPN Acts both as a biotin--[acetyl-CoA-carboxylase] ligase and a biotin-operon repressor. In the presence of ATP, BirA activates biotin to form the BirA-biotinyl-5'-adenylate (BirA-bio-5'-AMP or holoBirA) complex. HoloBirA can either transfer the biotinyl moiety to the biotin carboxyl carrier protein (BCCP) subunit of acetyl-CoA carboxylase, or bind to the biotin operator site and inhibit transcription of the operon.[HAMAP-Rule:MF_00978]
