Chitinase-3-like protein 1 (YKL-40) or Gp39 or cartilage glycoprotein-39 has a role as an autoantigen in rheumatoid arthritis. See also Diabetes & Hypoglycemia and Inflammation & Rheumatoid Arthritis. The goat, sheep, bovine signaling protein is termed SPG-40, SPS-40 and SPC-40, respectively. For details see Molecular Playground/YKL-40 and YKL-40. (water molecules are shown as red spheres; 1hjv).[1] RelevanceChitinase-3-like protein 1 and Chitinase-3-like protein 2 show strong expression in brain of multiple sclerosis patients and might help define the stage of the disease and have a prognostic value[2]. 3D Structures of chitinase-3-like proteinChitinase-3-like protein 3D structures
