The above images were made in 1996 from theoretical models of lipid bilayers published in 1993[1]. These models were featured in a 1996 RasMol Movie Script, which was subsequently adapted to more recent technologies, eventually JSmol: see Lipid Bilayers and the Gramicidin Channel.
