Function

Survivin or apoptosis inhibitor 4 (IAP4) plays a dual role. It inhibits caspase activation and thus it inhibits apoptosis and promotes cell proliferation[1]..

Disease

IAP4 is found in human cancer cells[2]. and can serve as a cancer marker and as a target for chemotherapy[3].

Structure of human survivin dimer (grey and green) complex with histone H3 peptide (cyan) and Zn+2 ion (grey) (PDB code 3uig).
