Crystal structure of human glutathione peroxidase 5Crystal structure of human glutathione peroxidase 5

Structural highlights

2i3y is a 1 chain structure with sequence from Human. Full crystallographic information is available from OCA. For a guided tour on the structure components use FirstGlance.
Ligands:
Gene:GPX5 (HUMAN)
Activity:Glutathione peroxidase, with EC number 1.11.1.9
Resources:FirstGlance, OCA, PDBe, RCSB, PDBsum

Function

[GPX5_HUMAN] Protects cells and enzymes from oxidative damage, by catalyzing the reduction of hydrogen peroxide, lipid peroxides and organic hydroperoxide, by glutathione. May constitute a glutathione peroxidase-like protective system against peroxide damage in sperm membrane lipids.

Evolutionary Conservation

Check, as determined by ConSurfDB. You may read the explanation of the method and the full data available from ConSurf.
