COP9 (COnstitutive Photomorphogenesis 9) signalosome catalyzes the hydrolysis of NEDD8 protein from the cullin subunit of cullin-ring ubiquitin ligase. COP9 functions in the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. COP9 contains 8 subunits and is homologous to the lid of the 26S proteasome.
