Severin is a calcium-activated protein which binds actin. It nucleates actin assembly, severes F-actin  and caps actin filaments. Severin is a member of the calcium-regulated gelsolin superfamily of actin severing and capping proteins. Severin comprises 6 homologous domains (A1-A6), which share 60% identity with the 6 domains from [[Gelsolin]] (G1-G6). It is named Adseverin and Scinderin as well. The image at the right is an <scene name='Severin/Cv/2'>octamer</scene> (each monomer is colored in different color) of the Severin with <scene name='Severin/Cv/3'>calcium ions</scene> (<font color='lime'><b>colored lime</b></font>).
Severin is a calcium-activated protein which binds actin. The images at the top and at the right correspond to one representative Severin structure, ''i.e.'' human Severin ([[3fg6]]).
