This is the member of the pyrimidine salvage pathway proteins. This phosphorylates uridine and cytidine. We can find the homologues of this protein in many species' genome(see KEGG[http://www.genome.ad.jp/dbget-bin/www_bget?enzyme+2.7.1.48]). However, this protein give us some questions. For example, many species have this protein homologues but don't have adenosine kinase homologue and inosine kinase homologue. This is the big question about nucleoside salvage pathway.
