All text contributions to Proteopedia after August 20, 11:00PM EST, 2010, are released under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL, with a hyperlink or URL being sufficient attribution under the Creative Commons license. (Proteopedia is undergoing a license change, and hopes to soon provide all text contributions under both these licenses.)

All text contributions to Proteopedia are considered to be released under the GNU Free Documentation License 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, with no Front-Cover Texts, and with no Back-Cover Texts. For details, click on the "GNU Free Doc License" link at the bottom of this and most every page. If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then don't submit it here.

You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource, or that the author of the work gave you permission to submit their work under the GNU FDL license. DO NOT SUBMIT COPYRIGHTED WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION!

Abstracts from PubMedAbstracts from PubMed

Abstracts have been aggregated from PubMed and are not modifiable. Abstracts from PubMed incorporate material contributed or licensed by individuals, companies, or organizations that may be protected by U.S. and foreign copyright laws. All persons reproducing, redistributing, or making commercial use of this information are expected to adhere to the terms and conditions asserted by the copyright holder. Transmission or reproduction of protected items beyond that allowed by fair use as defined in the copyright laws requires the written permission of the copyright owners.

These abstracts are mostly found on pages titled for PDB codes, or PDB code-titled pages (like 1hrh for example). These PDB code-titled pages fall under the GNU FDL because the abstract that appears on the page is not actually part of the page. The abstracts are part of templates that are recalled into the page on-the-fly as the page loads. If you click to edit that page, you will not see the text of the abstract, but rather a pointer to where the abstract text lives. The textual content of an abstracts is located according to the abstract's PMID at a page like Template:ABSTRACT_PUBMED_7708670 where the number is the PubMed ID of the abstract. Such a page is a template and resides in the Template namespace.

Structure BoxesStructure Boxes

PDB code-titled pages usually contain a 3D structure in a Jmol applet with some information below the applet aggregated from various resources. Those resources include SCOP, CATH, Pfam, UniProt, GeneCards, and GO among others. These Structure Boxes contain information aggregated from various resources with their own licenses and thus do not fall under the GNU FDL. The Proteopedia pages on which these Structure Boxes appear still fall under the GNU FDL because the text of the Structure Box does not appear in the page itself, only a pointer to the location of the text of the Structure Box. Each entry in the PDB has a Structure Box. As an example, the PDB entry 2ace has a structure box located at Template:STRUCTURE_2ace. These Structure Box template pages are not licensed under the GNU FDL due to containing aggregated content from various resources with independent licenses. Such pages are templates and reside in the Template namespace.
