==Macrophage Elastase==

Macrophage elastase (MPP-12) is an enzyme mainly expressed in alveolar macrophages in homo sapiens. It gives rise to emphysema by degrading elastin and by deactivating alpha1-proteinase inhibitor (alpha1-PI). The crystal structure of the enzyme was determined by X-ray shows a <scene name='Sandbox315/1jk3_hydrophobic/1'>hydrophobic</scene> active-site cleft. The red structures indicate where the hydrophobic residues are located. The enzyme has two <scene name='Sandbox315/Beta_sheet/1'>beta sheets</scene> shown in purple.
