We present the crystal structure of the extracytoplasmic domain of the Bacillus subtilis PhoR sensor histidine kinase, part of a two-component system involved in adaptation to low environmental phosphate concentrations. In addition to the PhoR structure, we predict that the majority of the extracytoplasmic domains of B. subtilis sensor kinases will adopt a fold similar to the ubiquitous PAS domain.

Structural highlights

3cwf is a 2 chain structure with sequence from Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis str. 168. Full crystallographic information is available from OCA. For a guided tour on the structure components use FirstGlance.
Method:X-ray diffraction, Resolution 2.2Å
Ligands:,
Resources:FirstGlance, OCA, PDBe, RCSB, PDBsum, ProSAT, TOPSAN

Function

PHOR_BACSU Member of the two-component regulatory system PhoP/PhoR involved in the alkaline phosphatase genes regulation. PhoR may function as a membrane-associated protein kinase that phosphorylates PhoP in response to environmental signals.
