Function

RmlC or dTDP-4-dehydrorhamnose 3,5-epimerase or dTDP-6-deoxy-D-xylo-4-hexulose 3,5-epimerase is an epimerase enzyme of the dTPD-rhamnose pathway. Deoxy-thymidine diphosphate (dTDP)-L-rhamnose is the precursor of L-rhamnose. L-rhamnose is a sugar component of microbial cell wall and is absent in human[1].

Relevance

Inhibitors of RmlC can serve as potential antimicrobial drugs[2].
