==General Description==
(General Description)
Interleukin-15 (IL-15) is a 14-15kDa cytokine with similar biological functions to IL-2 (Kirman, 1998), eliciting such responses as differentiation and proliferation of lymphocytes, expression of cytolytic programs in lymphocytic killer cells, and chemoattraction of T cells (Chae, 1996). IL-15 has also been implicated in homeostatic proliferaton and deemed necessary for CD8+ T cell memory. In high enough concentrations, IL-15 has been implicated in chronic inflammatory diseases.
