Cui is an immunity protein that is produced by E. coli alongside Colicin U to protect itself from the pore-forming cytotoxic activity of the Colicin. Once the complex has been released from the producing cell and binds to an outer membrane receptor on the target cell, the immunity protein is released.
Cui is an immunity protein that is produced by E. coli alongside Colicin U to protect itself from the pore-forming cytotoxic activity of the Colicin, by inserting itself into the cell membrane and preventing the Colicin from doing the same. This prevents membrane depolarisation by the colicin, so the cell is not killed.
