The official main language of Proteopedia is English. All articles in Proteopedia must have an English version. There are no plans to have complete parallel Proteopedias in non-English languages. (In contrast, [http://wikipedia.org Wikipedia] maintains parallel versions in many languages.) However, translation of English articles in Proteopedia to non-English languages is welcomed.

This page is primarily about Protopedia's '''rules and policies''' concerning languages. '''Instructions''' for translating an article are provided in [[Help:Language Translation]].

Of course, the English and non-English versions of an article will likely diverge as each is edited independently after the initial translation. While such divergence is undesirable, this problem seems to be outweighed by the value of having some articles in non-English languages. If you decide to translate a page, please add the original page to the list of your ''watched'' pages, to get notified by email when the original page changes.

==Titles==

The title of a non-English article '''must be all in English''', followed by the capitalized English name of the language in parentheses. The translated title can be the first thing in the body of the translated article, in large bold print, as seen in these examples:

==Interlanguage Links==

Articles in multiple languages must include a special wiki code that generates an ''interlanguage link''. The article on translation [[Help:Language_Translation#Mark_the_translation_as_being_available_in_English|provides details]].

Since the Interlanguage Links might not be noticed by novice users, it is also recommended to put links to other languages prominently at the top of each article, as can be seen in these examples:
