Transcription factor tau


Function

Transcription factor tau or TFIIIC is required for transcription of tRNA and 5S RNA genes by RNA polymerase III[1]. TFIIIC conserved complex is involved in the mechanism controlling general genome organization[2]. TFIIIC is a multisubunit protein which initiates transcription complex assembly on tRNA by binding to the internal box B promoter element of RNA polymerase III[3].

Structural highlights

TFIIIC contains 6 subunits which are organized in 2 subcomplexes. Subcomplex A contains the 131 kDa, 95 kDa and 55kDa subunits while subcomplex B contains 138 kDa, 91 kDa and 60 kDa subunits[4].
