Function

VIPP1_NOSP7 A membrane remodeling protein capable of forming rings and/or filaments on membranes, which then curve and tubulate the bilayer (Probable) (PubMed:34166615). Rings will form on liposomes, altering their positive curvature so the lipid bilayer is remodeled into a negative curve as the membrane enters the ring (PubMed:34166615). Ring stacks of varying lengths can be seen joining isolated liposomes (PubMed:34166615). A lipid monolayer can be drawn into the center of the rings (PubMed:34166615). Required for thylakoid formation (By similarity).[UniProtKB:Q55707][1] [2]
